Long before social media became a race to keep up with algorithms and keeping everyone’s attention for as long as possible, I remember reading blogs that felt like conversations. They weren’t trying to go viral or sell you something. They were simply people sharing snippets of their lives, their opinions and the little things they’d noticed that week.

Somewhere along the way, I think we lost a bit of that.

I love Instagram and TikTok, and I’m incredibly grateful for everything they’ve brought into my life, but I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been halfway through writing a caption and thought, I wish I had somewhere to write this instead.

Some thoughts deserve more than a Reel.

So, welcome to my corner of the internet.

If you’re new here, I’m Eva. I co-own Eva Victoria Bridal with my mum, Victoria, and I spend my days helping brides find the dress they’ll walk down the aisle in. It’s a job I never take for granted because no two appointments are ever the same. Every bride walks through our doors with a different story, a different style and a different idea of what she thinks she’s looking for.

More often than not, she surprises herself.

Outside the boutique, my world isn’t all that different. I’m endlessly inspired by fashion, travel and beautiful interiors, and I’m forever saving places I want to visit, outfits I’d love to recreate and ideas for future photoshoots. My camera roll is a mixture of wedding dresses, aeroplane windows, coffee shops, screenshots of tailoring details and far too many handbags I’ve convinced myself I don’t need.

I think that’s why I wanted to start this blog.

Owning a bridal boutique means I spend every week having conversations that never make it onto social media. Brides ask questions that don’t always have straightforward answers, trends appear overnight and suddenly everyone thinks they need the same sleeves, the same neckline or the same silhouette because Pinterest has decided it’s the dress of the moment.

Then there are the celebrity weddings.

Which brings me to Dua Lipa.

Like most people, I couldn’t wait to see what she’d wear. Celebrity wedding dresses have become cultural moments now. Within hours, they’re all over Pinterest, TikTok and Instagram, inspiring brides across the world before they’ve even had chance to book their first appointment.

Personally, I loved her dresses.

Not because they were dramatic or designed to dominate headlines, but because they felt completely authentic to her. They managed to strike that balance between fashion and timelessness, which is much harder to achieve than people realise. She looked effortless, confident and, most importantly, like herself.

That’s something I wish more brides remembered when they start shopping.

Every week I meet women who worry they’re supposed to like whatever happens to be trending. Bows, sleeves, basque waists, drop waists, pearls… the list changes every season. Trends are brilliant because they introduce us to new ideas, but they’re not a checklist, and they certainly shouldn’t define your wedding day.

The dresses I remember most aren’t necessarily the most fashionable ones.

They’re the brides who walked out of the fitting room, looked in the mirror and smiled because they finally recognised themselves.

That’s always the goal.

If there’s one thing you’ll learn about me, it’s that I love talking about bridal fashion, but I’m far more interested in why we make the choices we do than simply telling you what’s in or out. Every trend, every celebrity wedding and every appointment teaches me something new, and this journal is where I’ll be sharing those conversations.

Every first Sunday of the month, you’ll find a new entry here. Some weeks we’ll be talking about celebrity weddings, the latest bridal trends or the questions I hear almost every day in the boutique. Other weeks, we’ll wander into fashion, beauty, travel, content creation or simply something that’s caught my attention and sparked an opinion. If it’s relevant, interesting or something I think you’ll genuinely enjoy reading, it’ll probably find its way into The Journal.

More than anything, I want this to become a space that’s genuinely helpful. Wedding planning comes with enough noise already, and my aim is to cut through some of it with honest advice, thoughtful opinions and practical insights from someone who’s lucky enough to spend every day surrounded by brides. Whether you’re newly engaged, counting down to your wedding, or you’re simply here because you love fashion as much as I do, I hope you’ll always leave with a fresh perspective or something useful to take away.

I’d also love this to be a conversation rather than me simply talking at you each week. Eva’s Final Thoughts

If there’s one piece of advice I’d leave you with this week, it’s this: don’t let the internet convince you that your wedding has to look like anybody else’s. Inspiration is wonderful, but confidence will always be more stylish than following a trend. The best-dressed brides I’ve ever met weren’t the ones wearing the most fashionable gown. They were the ones who looked completely comfortable being themselves.
